Our initial goal was to create an automated solution for state production reporting. Making a simple solution was easy, but we noticed there were many errors and discrepancies from field reported numbers and “actuals”.
This led to the development of more complex algorithms beyond industry standard equations. It was deemed necessary to find a way to implement a checks and balance system to understand the tracking of hydrocarbons from the wellhead to its final disposition.
The next hurdle encountered was reconciliation, a process that can take 3-6 months, we found it difficult to report accurate numbers to the state if reconciliation had not yet been completed. A reconciliation model was then created, which led to another interesting find, both parties must report the same numbers to the state, yet neither party had yet agreed on what the correct numbers are.
From a simple form with the idea of a simple solution, we created a very complex set of tools with an easy to use interface. Being flexible and open minded has helped us to expand beyond the traditional methods of calculating volumes for production and has allowed us to produce more accurate numbers for reporting.
